About Garmin

Man holding a computer circuit board

Garmin makes products that are engineered on the inside for life on the outside. We do this so our customers can make the most of the time they spend pursuing their passions. Garmin introduced its first GPS navigation product in 1989 and has since grown into a global consumer products leader serving the automotive, aviation, marine, outdoor and fitness markets. With more than 18,000 associates in 34 countries we think every day is an opportunity to innovate and a chance to beat yesterday.

Garmin products are routinely recognized for innovation, utility, and overall excellence in the markets we serve. In 2021, Garmin Autoland, the world’s first certified autonomous aviation emergency landing technology, was awarded the Collier Trophy by the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America. And for the seventh consecutive year, Garmin was recently named the Manufacturer of the Year by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA).

Great ideas sometimes come from singular inspiration, but more often they’re a result of collaborative effort. Inside Garmin, we like to foster an environment of participation and engagement. We support professional development, offer well-designed career paths and adhere to a policy that prioritizes promoting from within the company to maximize the opportunities for our associates. We are also committed to being a good corporate citizen and providing opportunities for associates to contribute toward a healthy, sustainable world.

How to Prepare for a Job at Garmin

Once you've found a position that fits your knowledge and skills, you can fill out an application and create a profile to track it. If you know someone who already works at Garmin, don't forget to put down the name in the application field that asks who referred you. One of our recruiters will review your application and will email or call you within one to three weeks.

Whether on the phone or in person, one of our recruiters will ask a series of behavioral questions designed to give us an understanding of your experience and skill set. The hiring manager will also ask questions intended to give you the opportunity to illustrate your background and experience. In a technical interview, you'll be challenged with a coding exercise. At the end of the interview, your recruiter or coordinator will provide you with a timeline for when you can expect to hear back from us.

Here are some interview tips:

  • COME PREPARED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. We understand that your experiences won’t always line up item-for-item with the job description. What matters is your ability to speak clearly about your skills, passions and projects in a way that's more than just a summary of your qualifications.
  • BE YOURSELF. We're not looking for the perfect candidate. We want to hire unique thinkers who can make up diverse teams at Garmin. Don't tell us how you fit the mold; we're more interested in how you break it.
  • DO YOUR RESEARCH. We make much more than GPS navigators for cars. We want candidates to understand the range of products we make and the variety of markets we serve. Even specialized skills may have crossover value.
  • MANNERS MATTER. Your interview starts as soon as you leave your home. Be nice, especially to the people who help you get where you need to go, such as the receptionist, greeter and even the Uber driver.
  • DRESS TO IMPRESS. No official dress code means we leave it up to our associates to dress the way their position and responsibilities require. As a candidate, you should dress professionally, and in a way that reflects your personality and experience.
  • STAND APART FROM THE CROWD. Our recruiters hear from a lot of natural leaders, hard workers, problem solvers and team players. These are desirable qualities, but we want examples of how you've used these qualities to improve processes, effect change or overcome an obstacle. Be specific and include results metrics.
  • ASK QUESTIONS. Finding the right fit is just as important to Garmin as it is to you. We love hearing your questions about culture, work-life balance, benefits and how you can put your passions to work.
  • SEND A THANK-YOU NOTE. We want to hear from you. Send a thank-you note to anyone — recruiter, coordinator, interviewing team — with whom you interacted in a meaningful way. You can write about what you learned, what excited you and why you think you would be a great member of the team.
