Local Students Say YEP to a Summer at Textron Aviation

Posted September 1, 2021

From presentations to airplanes, people are at the heart of everything for Textron Aviation. This summer, nearly 100 high school students from the greater Wichita, Kan. area spent six weeks interning at the company’s headquarter location as part of the Youth Employment Project (YEP). Textron Aviation gained the valuable perspectives of 16-19-year-old students through this collaborative community program while simultaneously offering participants the chance to kick-start their career paths through a paid part-time, six-week summer experience.

Rebekah, a YEP intern in Communications, said the experience opened her eyes to what her future could be.

"It was such a good opportunity, and every high schooler should try to experience it."
— Rebekah, YEP Intern

Ladaryn, a previous YEP participant, gained so much valuable experience during his internship through the program that he applied for a full-time position and joined the company following graduation. Through providing experiences like YEP for students, Textron Aviation strives to introduce more young people to the diverse and rich career opportunities in the aviation industry.

"Textron believes in me, and they don’t just believe in me; they believe in all their interns. You could work at a lot of places, but you will not, ever, get the level of respect that you receive right here at Textron Aviation."
— Chris, Aircraft Sales Representative and former intern
