I was young when I knew I wanted to work in the hospitality industry. As a child, I wanted to own a Bed and Breakfast. I liked the idea of hosting people from all over the world and showing them the very best hospitality. I got excited about the conversations we could have, the experience I could create and the food we could wow them with.
The college where I pursued my undergraduate degree in psychology had a strong emphasis on social justice. During my four years of study, I volunteered weekly to help feed the homeless population in the area. That was my first hands-on experience working with people, which ignited my passion for social work. The rest is history!
Growing up, I could never decide what I wanted to do for a career. I had so many different interests and bounced around so many things — I couldn’t have guessed I’d be where I am today.
Growing up in a family of plumbers, it’s no surprise that I ended up in the same field. But when I went away to college, plumbing was the last thing I planned to pursue.
That changed when I heard my family talk about their work at gatherings. I realized how proud they were of helping homeowners solve problems. After college, and some time spent counseling children, I decided to return to plumbing.
