How to Prepare for a Job in Selling or Repairing Construction Equipment

Foley Equipment encourages young adults interested in selling or repairing construction equipment to:

  • Take technical classes like automotive technology (auto shop) where you can learn about motors, cars and electronics
  • Be involved in organizations like FFA (formerly called Future Farmers of America) or other clubs that expose you to larger pieces of equipment, how they work and what they do.
  • Find a mentor to help teach you about cars, motors, engines and tools. With their help, try taking apart and repairing many different types of machines.
  • Seek out internships in high school and visit technical colleges with automotive programs.
  • Make sure to work on good basic computer skills, and know how to type, write and do math. You will use those skills when working with your tools, reading diagrams and writing up repair reports.
  • Take Spanish or another foreign language class. As our world gets more diverse, so does our workforce and our customers. Being able to communicate with everyone is important to our business.
