It’s easy to explore agriculture hands-on in Kansas, thanks to organizations like 4-H and FFA. Here are some helpful resources to learn more about this field:

  • Kansas 4-H: Administered by Kansas State University, this program offers youth clubs and activities in many areas related to agriculture.
  • Kansas FFA: This program is a state branch of a national organization that provides opportunities for leadership development and growth in the field of agriculture.
  • National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame: This nationally acclaimed attraction is part museum, part amusement park, part special event — and all educational fun.
  • Flint Hills Discovery Center: This interactive experience in Manhattan lets the whole family explore the ecosystem of some of the best cattle-ranching country in the world.
  • State and county fairs: Explore and enjoy the world of agriculture at any county fair or go big at the annual, jam-packed State Fair in Hutchinson. Rodeos are also really fun options.
  • Agritourism: Kansas abounds with so many opportunities for trips to local farms, festivals, museums and other agricultural destinations. You can get creative and look for seasonal events like baby animal tours in the spring, dairy visits for ice cream in the summer, pumpkin patches in the fall and tree farms in the winter. A great place to start researching cool places is Travel Kansas, a site with a filterable map of different types of activities as well as special sections on farming and ranching experiences, and “Made in Kansas” tours. If you’re in the Kansas City area, the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead offers a wonderful chance to get up close and personal with agriculture and animals.
