How Is Heavy Construction Expected to Change in the Future?

Heavy construction is anticipated to experience growth in the next decade, as global needs continue to increase. In the United States, our aging infrastructure of roads, bridges, and sewer systems mean constant rounds of repair and maintenance. And as our population grows, there will be increasing pressure on our transportation system with a greater need for new roads and other infrastructure, as well as better safety. The Department of Labor anticipates an increase of jobs in heavy construction over the next decade.

Autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence will change how equipment works and improve the conditions for operators, but there will always be a need for humans to oversee and maintain the quality of the work and equipment. Companies are already using drones for surveying work, and GPS and mapping systems are improving the precision and efficiency of project planning. The technologies will change, but at the end of the day, people will still be a big part of the equation.
