Industrial engineering technicians help solve problems in factory layouts and manufacturing by using engineering ideas and principles, usually while working under experienced engineers. They might also study how workers do their tasks to find ways to make production faster and more efficient.

Create, assemble, install and fix sheet metal products and equipment like ducts, control boxes, pipes and furnace parts. Inspect products to ensure quality. May include operating machines to shape sheet metal. 

Help production workers by performing duties requiring less experience, such as supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.

Help installation, maintenance and repair workers with parts replacement, repair of vehicles and machinery and more. 

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce parts and instruments out of metal. Fabricate, modify or repair mechanical instruments or parts. 

Operate computer-controlled tools, machines, or robots to process parts, tools or other work pieces. Set up and maintain equipment when needed.

Cover aircraft in protective materials and fix paint blemishes. 

Lubricate machinery, change parts or perform other routine machinery maintenance.

Design, build, repair, adjust and modify electrical components, circuitry, controls and machinery, usually under the direction of engineering staff.

Repair, install, adjust or maintain industrial machinery or systems. Install, take apart or move machinery and heavy equipment when needed.

Operate machines to prepare industrial or consumer products for storage or shipment. Includes workers who pack food products.

Inspect, test, sort, sample or weigh nonagricultural raw materials or products to check for issues and deviations from how it should look or perform. 

Restore, refinish and replace vehicle bodies and frames, windshields and window glass.

Inspect, repair and overhaul buses, trucks or any vehicle with a diesel engine.

Inspect, maintain and repair cars and light trucks.

Use hand-held or remotely controlled equipment to join, repair or cut metal parts and products.

Manufacture a variety of products such as cabinets and furniture using wood, veneers and laminates.
