Many toys and games help teach key business concepts, including:

  • Stacking and sorting toys are great for toddlers to learn some of these initial skills. Piggy banks and toy cash registers help young children grasp the concept of money.
  • Pretend-play toys help kids begin to develop more advanced, concrete skills. Toy phones, ATMs, grocery setups and money sets are great for older children from kindergarten to third grade.
  • For anyone working from home, kids can play “office” right next to their parents by answering the phone or learning about computers. Real-life role models are incredibly powerful!
  • Board games like Monopoly and The Game of Life combine play and hands-on learning.  These games are great at helping fourth graders and above grasp more advanced financial concepts and practice making decisions. Games like Catan take decision-making to a higher level for young adults and parents.
  • Coin collecting is another activity that anyone with an affinity for business or administration might enjoy.
  • Consider investing through an app or game, or with real dollars. Setting up a 529 college savings plan can be a great family activity as you track the savings together. Plus, those plans can help pay for education at certain trade schools and colleges.
