What's It Like to Work in Service Careers?

Service workers enjoy being around people. Spending most of their days interacting with others, service workers provide information, assistance or labor of some kind to those they’re helping.

Service workers can have a variety of skills and training, depending on the specific field they're working in, whether that's banking, transportation, retail or others.

From toddlers to young adults, many toys and games help teach key service concepts:

  • Stacking and sorting toys are great for toddlers to learn some of these initial skills. Piggy banks and toy cash registers help young children grasp the concept of money.
  • Pretend-play toys help kids begin to develop more advanced, concrete skills. Toy phones, ATMs, salon sets and grocery setups are great for older children from kindergarten through third grade.
  • Board games like Ticket to Ride and Catan combine play and hands-on learning. These games are great for children in fourth grade and above to grasp logistical concepts and practice making decisions.
  • Older kids and young adults might enjoy more sophisticated games like escape rooms and Pandemic. These collaborative games promote working together and foster a sense of acting for the greater good.
