About The Kansas Contractors Association

The Kansas Contractors Association (KCA) represents the state’s heavy highway and utility construction industry. Known in the construction world as “the heavies,” KCA members are suppliers and builders of projects such roads and highways, bridges, dams, parking lots, airport runways, landfills, sewers, energy plants, canals, ports and other forms of transportation infrastructure.

Together, KCA members want to educate families about the many well-paid career opportunities available in this industry — without post-secondary education requirements. KCA members are looking for young men and women with a good work ethic, an ability to work in teams, and a willingness to work outside. If someone has these traits, the rest of the skills they need can be taught on the job, with the potential of promotion into management in a matter of years.

Parent Tip:

If your son or daughter likes building things, working outside, being a part of a team, and never having two days alike, or thinks they’d enjoy working with large equipment like bulldozers or cranes, this industry might be the perfect match!
