Luke Bailey always thought he'd work in the technology field. As a product support specialist with Garmin, he helps customers fix issues with their devices so they can get back to their passions.

I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands. Growing up on our family farm, I worked on tractors, trucks, pickups and other kinds of machinery. But it never dawned on me that I could use my interests to pursue a career.
I was first introduced to Garmin’s seasonal program by my high school counselor. They told me that I could work for Garmin during the summer and get hands-on experience while learning about the company and the kinds of jobs there. It sounded like a great opportunity and a way for me to figure out what career I’d really like to pursue after high school.
My father and his brothers served in the military, and as a kid I was always struck by how patriotic they were. That influence shaped my decision to become a soldier. When LaFonda McCullough heard about Garmin and their many career paths, she already had soldering experience. Her skillset helped prepare her for what she does now: repairing customer products.
It’s no coincidence that I work with tractors and implements for a living, considering I dreamed of becoming a ship captain or an airline pilot as a child. I’ve always been fascinated with large machinery and the people who operate it.
Before starting my career, I thought about studying law or psychology. I was intrigued by rules, laws and consequences. Plus, communication is a strength of mine, and I’m always trying to figure people out or understand the deeper meaning behind certain situations. Human resources ended up being the perfect fit because it combines all those skills and interests!
I became interested in real estate while I was in high school. I finally decided to make the transition to becoming a real estate agent myself at the age of 39, and I could not be happier.
